The Person I Want to Be Essay Example for Free
The Person I Want to Be Essay According to Artistotle, the virtuous person is one who finds a suitable balance among their many desires and passions. Finding that happy medium is a goal I wish to accomplish through careful thought and consideration of my personal desires. I have set the primary goal of having a successful career, with a latter goal of having the ideal work- life balance when I begin a family. Referring back to Aristotle, I want to determine how to proportion my desires to find eudaimonia. At this stage in my life, my primary goal is to have a successful career. Having the desire to succeed can be fueled by the virtue of motivation. I believe I am currently embracing the happy medium, for I am very driven to do my best but not to the point of it interfering with my personal life and other hobbies. One main step in embracing motivation is to have your goal clear in your mind. I always imagine a concrete image of where I am trying to get and what the road that will get me there looks like. Itââ¬â¢s important also to understand beforehand the potential roadblocks that can deter you from reaching your goal, and to predetermine the route that will be taken to avoid or overcome them. Another important virtue to foster in having a successful career is modesty. I take a lot of pride in my work but often find myself comparing scores with peers and feeling a sense of satisfaction when I score higher. I know that Iââ¬â¢m leaning towards the vice of excess by being boastful at times, which is why modesty is one of the virtues I want to work on balancing as I continue my college career and my professional growth. In an accounting firm, the goal is to succeed as one and to grow as a team rather than an individual. Maintaining a strong sense of modesty is a goal I am aiming to achieve because I too often find myself concerned with how I compare to others, and I would rather support the success of everyone. Confidence and commitment are two virtues that are cornerstone to accomplishing the goals I have set for myself. My standards are high and my goals may seem far- fetched to some, but through perseverance and commitment I know that they are achievable. In my academic career, I have set the goal to be on the Deanââ¬â¢s List each semester until I graduate. In addition to excellent grades, I am determined to have a winter 2014 accounting internship with a well-respected firm. The opportunity to get an internship does not come easily; the interviews are challenging and the competition is fierce. Confidence is the virtue that can help me best achieve my goal because I know that in order for the firm to think Iââ¬â¢m the best candidate, I have to feel as if Iââ¬â¢m the best candidate. Confidence is a virtue that will follow me throughout my life, and is a key ingredient to the recipe for happiness. Having a solid work- life balance is an important aspect to keep in mind. Although I have a relentless drive to succeed academically and professionally, it is not my only desire. In the future, I hope to be a loving wife and mother to a wonderful family. Several characteristics that are most important to have when being a part of a family are honesty, trust, patience, and love. I know that if I make decisions with those characteristics in mind, I will be making decisions with the heart rather than the mind. In my personal life, letting my heart make the decisions is always the best course of action that leads to the utmost happiness. Keeping business and pleasure apart from one another is an integral way to keep a suitable work- life balance. The ideally concocted recipe for happiness would result in the harmony of an accomplished career and the balance of a family. The virtues I hope to strengthen and maintain culminate to create the perfect recipe for happiness. Without any one ingredient, the recipe will not turn out as planned. Adding too much or too little of one ingredient will also lead the recipe to fail. I have laid out all the ingredients I plan to use to create my ideal recipe for happiness, my next step and challenge is to decide the proportions I want to add to my mixing bowl called life.

About Steroids :: essays research papers
Many people have had their lives ruined by the use of illegal steroids, yet the desired effects are so overwhelming that people tend to overlook the consequences. Steroid users believe taking anabolic steroids will enhance their performance, strength, size, etc. They regard the use of them as legitimate as any other aspect of training. To begin with, the term "anabolic " means "to build tissue," therefore anabolic steroids tend to increase constructive metabolic pathways within the body. Also, anabolic steroids are synthetic derivatives of the natural male sex hormone, testosterone. Testosterone was the first steroid developed, a natural occuring hormone in many plants and animals. The first clinical use of testosterone occured in 1958 when physicians injected it into underweight and ill patients to simualte weight gain. The first reported use of steroids in a non-medical setting occured during World War II. Steroids were adminstered by Nazi doctors into German soldiers to enhance their aggressiveness. The Soviet Union noted the Nazis' use of the drug and recognized that enhanced aggressiveness, increasing in strength, and size could be desirable in athletic competition. The Soviets experimented with steroids in the early 1950's and it is believed that they were used in the 1952 Olympic games. The introduction of steroids into the United States is often attributed to the late Dr. John Ziegler, the team physician for the United States weightlifting team at the last Vienna World Power lifting championships. A Soviet physician told Ziegler that some of the members fo the Soviet team were using testosterone as an aid to enhance their strength. Ziegler was impressed with the results and began conducting some studies on American lifters. The results were the development and introduction of the steroid Dianobol, an anabolic steroid with fewer masculinizing properties than testosterone. Dianobol became well known in the athletic world. By the 1956 Melbourne Olympic games, steroid use had escalated to the point that many Olympic competetors in the strength events were either using them or were aware of their performance ehancing abilties. Anabolic steroids are all derivatives of the male sex hormone testosterone. With the use of steroids a person will receive two types of effects from the use. The first is the androgenic effects or masculinizing. These are the unwanted effects such as the enlarging of the prostate, growth of male sex glands, deepening of the voice, and increased facial hair(other steroids were developed in an attempt

Why Should We Help To Veterans - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 857 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/04/15 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Veterans Essay Did you like this example? Veterans have sacrificed so much for our country by fighting to maintain our freedom and rights. For this reason, the government should do something about the veterans poverty rate. Veterans have resources that they could use but the resources do not always reach out to the veterans in need. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Why Should We Help To Veterans?" essay for you Create order The rate of homeless veterans is very high compared to non-veterans in the United States because they were usually not ever taught how to write a resume and many have had little to any experience with a job interview. Even though the government provides care for veterans, veterans are still not getting enough care with mental health or assistance in securing jobs on returning to civilian life. The result is a mass majority of veterans who are homeless and destitute. There are three key reasons first, the mass majority of veterans become homeless after retiring from the service. The government should be doing more to provide more affordable housing for the veterans. There should be programs to help them obtain housing at affordable costs. Studies have shown that more than five hundred thousand U.S. veterans experience homelessness each year, maintains the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans(Homelessness). Also, There is a problem with the veterans not getting enough resources they need to able to afford a house. There is a more likely chance for males than females to become homeless. Also, if veterans are retiring from the military at an older age, there is also a higher percentage of homelessness due to lack of job skills. This is a major problem because veterans do not get the resources they need. Most are not taught how to write a resume that would help them acquire a job that they would need. Secondly, most veterans come back from fighting and are diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, (PTSD), and do not get access to the right resources to help them get better. For this major problem, the government should provide more mental health programs for veterans. A large percentage of veterans coming back from war are diagnosed with some kind of mental health problem. In fact, one in eight soldiers returning from combat during that first year of War in Iraq was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder or some other mental illness (Dreaxen). Veterans and active soldiers should be provided with more resources to help lower the percentage of mental health problems that affect veterans after retiring from the service or are still active duty. There should be affordable health care for those veterans that can not afford to get the help that they should be getting for PTSD. Lastly, a high percentage of veterans find themselves jobless when coming back after fighting. The main reasons for this are, First, many simply have little idea of how to write a resume, prepare for a job interview, or search out companies with openings (Dreazen). They are not provided the right resources to help them get a job because they are just told what to do when they are serving, so when they retire they do know how to seek out a job. Another reason if they most people do not want to hire a veteran because of the possibility of them having a mental health issue from serving in the military. They are very quick to not hire veterans also because sometimes they do not have all the experience they need for certain jobs. They are very quick to turn down veterans due to these conditions. But, there are some resources out there that help provide veterans with jobs that are limited to veterans for jobs. However, there are still some resources that provide help for a group of veterans. There are nursing homes that help provide care for veterans but it is only for veterans that need a certain care. The VA is committed to providing a customized treatment plan.. Any veteran who has a service-connected disability rated at 70% or more qualifies for nursing home care (Washington Times ). This works for veterans that fit the criteria. On the other hand, if veterans or not informed about the VA programs to help then they are not really reaching out to the veterans and their families that might need this program or help in their families situation. VA offers a variety of programs Yet, many veterans and their families argue that these programs are not limited value if veterans are not informed about them.. ( Washington Times). They need to reach out to families that need help and not just help those who are 70% and qualifies and should expand the program to help others. In conclusion, there is a program that helps a certain amount of veterans that have a certain percentage rate to be provided help. This help does not always give veterans and their families the care they should be provided with so they should provide different coverage options. This problem makes it so that some veterans become homeless, and another reason this happens is that they will not get hired for jobs. The bottom line is that the government should do more for the veterans that fight for this country.
